The state of stress at a point in a loaded machine member is given by the principal stresses. $\sigma _{1}$=600 MPa,  $\sigma _{2}$= 0 and  $\sigma _{3}$ = -600 MPa.

(i)   What is the magnitude of the maximum shear stress?

(ii)  What is the inclination of the plane on which the maximum shear stress acts with respect to the plane on which the maximum principal stress acts?
