The lower portion of a U-tube of uniform bore having both limbs vertical and open to atmosphere, is initially filled with a liquid of specific gravity 3S. A lighter liquid of specific gravity S is then poured into one of the limbs such that the length of column of lighter liquid is X. What is the resulting movement of the meniscus of the heavier liquid in the other limb?
