The following information pertains to an inward flow reaction turbine:

         Output = 500 h.p.; Speed = 750 r.p.m.;

Head = 70m. Axial length of blade at inlet = 0.1 x wheel diameter at inlet; ratio of outer and inner diameters = 0.5: flow ratio = 0.17; hydraulic efficiency = 92%;

Overall efficiency = 84%.

         Assume radial discharge, constant velocity of flow throughout and area blocked by blade thickness as 5% of area of flow.

Determine

(i) diameters at inlet and outlet,

(ii) width of wheel at inlet and outlet,

(iii) Guide blade angle,

(iv) vane angles at inlet and outlet.
