A single row impulse turbine stage running at 3000 r.p.m. has a blade speed to steam ratio of 0.48. The nozzles are set at an angle of 15o with respect to the place of the blade disc. The mean velocity of the blades is 144m/s. The moving blades are symmetrical about there axis parallel to the direction of rotation. The nozzle efficiency is 0.92 and blade velocity coefficient is 0. 97. The height of the nozzles at their exit section is 100mm. Steam leaving the nozzles is saturated and dry and its pressure is 10 kg/cm2. Determine (i) the isentropic heat drop in the stage (ii) the energy lost in the nozzles and the moving blades due to friction (iii) energy lost due to finite velocity of steam leaving the stage (iv) mass flow rate (v) power developed by the stage and (vi) the efficiency of stage. Assume that steam is accelerated from rest in the nozzles.
