The compression ratio r of isentropic compression in a Carnot cycle is variable, while the overall compression ratio R, including the compression during isothermal and isentropic processes, is fixed. Establish the condition which gives the optimum value of isentropic compression ratio for maximum output of the cycle in terms of R, r and isentropic index of compression.
