The diameter and stroke of a gas engine cylinder are 18 cm and 30 cm respectively. The ratio of expansion is 5. The pressure and temperature of the mixture at the beginning of compression are 1.04 kgf/cm2 and 100°C respectively. Find the index of the compression process and the weight of the mixture in the cylinder, if the pressure at the end of compression is 7 kgf/cm2. Also calculate the work done and heat transferred during the process, indicating the direction of flow. Assume, R = 29.3 kgf-m/kg-°K and ratio of specific heats equal to 1.4 for the mixture.
