A mercury manometer is fitted to a pipe, it s mounted on the delivery line of a centrifugal pump. One limb of the manometer is connected to the upstream side of the pipe at A and the other limb at B, just below the value V as shown in the figure below.    

The manometer reading ‘h’ varies with different value positions

Assertion(A): With gradual closure of the value the magnitude of ‘’ will go on increasing and even a situation may arise when mercury will be sucked in by the water flowing around B.

Reason(R): With the gradual closure of the value, the pressure at A will go on increasing.
