An oil fired boiler uses a fuel which contains 84 per cent carbon and 16 per cent hydrogen by weight. The volumetric analysis of the dry flue gases was found to be: CO2= 9 percent; CO = 2 percent; O2 = 5 percent and N2 = 84 per cent. Assuming complete combustion of the hydrogen in the fuel, determine the quantity of carbon remaining un burnt in each kg. of the fuel fired in the furnace.

Also determine the actual air-fuel ratio and the excess air factor.
