A four-stroke petrol engine develops 30 kW at 2600 r.p.m. The compression ratio of the engine is 8 and its fuel consumption is 8.4 kg/h with calorific value of 44 by means of a sharp edge orifice is 2 m3 per min. If the piston displacement volume is 2 litres, calculate:

  1. Volumetric efficiency
  2. Air-fuel ratio
  3. Brake mean effective pressure
  4. Brake thermal efficiency
  5. Relative efficiency

The ambient temperature of air can be taken as 27 0C, R for air as 287 J/kg-K and g = 1.4. The barometer reads 735 mm of mercury.
