Practically it is not feasible to design an engine which closely follows the ‘Carnot cycle’ for the following reasons

1. Transfer of heat energy at constant temperature is very difficult to achieve

2. Isentropic processes are very fast processes                               

3. It makes use of smaller pressure ratios

4. Thermal efficiency is not a function of source and sink temperatures
