A heat exchanger tube with inner and outer diameters 2.118 cm and 2.54 cm respectively is equipped with 20 equally spaced straight fins of uniform thickness placed longitudinal along the tube. The fins are 25 cm long in the radial direction and are 0.16 cm thick Both the tube and the fins are made of steel with k = 45 W/mC. The inside and outside heat transfer coefficients are 1130 and 255 W/m2 C respectively. What is the overall heat transfer coefficient for the exchanger based on the outer exposed surface are? Compare this result with that for the same tube without fins subjected to the same heat transfer coefficients
